This event was born out of the collaboration between Rutgers Advanced Institute for Critical Caribbean Studies (RAICCS) and the Fine Arts Program of the Instituto de Cultura Puertorriqueña. The tour will be lead by the program director, María del Mar Caragol Rivera, and ICP’s art collection registrar, Laura Quiñones Navarro, who will display and discuss artifacts and sources illuminating Puerto Rico’s slaveholding, slavetrafficking, and anti-black past, as well as its connection to the rest of the Atlantic world.
This event aims to showcase the richness, depth, and cultural importance of Afro-Puerto Rican Culture and History to highlight the importance of Puerto Rican collections and archives in creating knowledge about the Black Atlantic.
